Answer #1

The question clearly asks about the impact of various ICT tools on a person

1. iPhone

a) Before the iPhones, there were other phones like Blackberry and Nokia. But if the entire mobile phone concept is removed, then information could have been sent by telephone or landline(as they say). Other devices used to send and receive information could be a pager, which is a wireless telecommunication device for sending and receiving voice or alphanumeric messages.

Other than that, print media or letters can be used to personally send messages.

b) iPhone today can be used in a variety of work, like to make calls, staying updated about the happenings of the world, and close ones. Staying in touch, irrespective of the distance can help in relationship management.

Other than that for self-awareness, it can be used to track health, manage the schedule for the day, or meetings. One can also make a journal on it to become more self-aware.

c) iPhone as an ICT can bridge the distance gap. Now a person can call someone residing in any corner of the world. Thus, the physical gap is bridged and relations can be sustained, given the distance.

The losing aspect of ICT is more dependence upon it for communication, may result in losing emotional touch, or a need for face to face conversation. Communication through emotions is limited and is now constrained to words.

2. Social media
a) Before social media, people were directly sending information to one another through letters, making a call, or texting. Usually, it was one to one communication. With social media, it is now one to many. Previously bulk messaging was used for this purpose and manually done.

b) Social media gives a way to stay in touch with friends and acquaintances, without the need to manually informing each person. It has helped a person to remain in contact, constantly, and share information or graphics that could have been impossible without it.
Thus, the relation here has involved many more senses than voice.

On self-awareness, it can help a person understand about his activities, what was done last year or where he visited. It becomes a record or a journal for an individual.

c) Social media helps develop a more interpersonal relationship that was limited with face to face or telephonic conversation. A person who may have never met can also become a close connection by following the activities on social media. Thus, interpersonal communication is widened

On the losing side, it lacks emotion and can be more pretentious at times. This may not project the correct personality of a person. Also, as many connections are established, the value of each one reduces. Thus, it has both advantages and disadvantages.

3. Internet
a) People can use print or broadcasting medium to send and receive information. This can be newspapers, magazines, letters, TV, etc.

b) On the internet, different technologies and tools are built like email, social media, video calls, etc. Thus, the points mentioned above applies to it as well. The relationship with relatives or professional connections can be sustained and established with the help of the internet.

A lot of devices like health trackers or IoT are developed on the base of the internet, in sharing information. This helps a person to be more aware of him/herself, like sleep patterns, or exercise routine. The Internet can also help gauge the skill level of a person, as compared to the connections he/she has.

c) There is a lot to gain in interpersonal communication. Now both, personal and professional relations can be built and sustained. The place is no more criteria to get connected with people. With the internet, a person can talk, text, video call another one.

While on the losing side, the importance of real connections and authentic personality is lost. Also, over-dependence and usage of internet-based devices can lead to health issues in the long run.
