11. Regarding how energy flows through an ecosystem, which of the following statements is true?

A. As energy moves through an ecosystem, some is wasted or lost in the form of heat. Therefore, there will always be more producers in a system than consumers.

B. The process of energy moving through an ecosystem is highly efficient. This allows for an equal number of consumers and producers.

C. As energy moves through an ecosystem, some is wasted or lost in the form of heat. Therefore, there will always be more consumers in a system than producers.

D. The process of energy moving through an ecosystem is highly efficient. This allows for more consumers than producers.

Answer #1

In the ecosystem the energy flows from the producers to the consumers. With each trophic level energy transfer, only 10% of total energy is trafered to the next level and rest is lost in the form of heat. In an ecosystem the number of producers is always much more than the consumer so that the ecosystem remains stable.

The answer is A.
