In case of maternal effect genes, the offsprings produced, exhibit the phenotype of the mother. This does not follow the Mendelian pattern of inheritance. Thus, if the mother is wild type, all of the offsprings will be wild type. On the other hand, if the mother is having the mutation (that is, if the mother is expressing the mutation), all of the offsprings will be mutated, no matter what the genotype of the father is.

Here, the given mutation is recessive. A recessive mutation is expressed only in homozygous condition. Thus, defective progeny will be produced, when the female is homozygous for the mutation, that is, her genotype is m/m. Hence, the cross given in the 2nd and the 3rd options will produce defective offsprings.
