Which of the following statements about maternal effect is true?

In maternal effect, reciprocal crosses give identical results but with different ratios among male and female progeny.
In maternal effect, the phenotype of the progeny does not necessarily depend on the individual's genotype but on the genotype of the maternal parent.
In maternal effect, the genes are linked to the X chromosome.
In maternal effect, a trait is transmitted through the ooplasm because the mitochondria and chloroplasts of the zygote derive from the ooplasm.

Answer #1

2nd one is correct answer because in maternal effect genotype of offspring is affected by factors present in ooplasm . So genes in offspring are coded by nuclear region of offspring but that expression is effected by maternal genotype factor present in ooplasm.

4rth option is example of maternal inheritance ,not of maternal effect .

Maternal effect means effect of mother genotype on offspring genotype.

Nameindulia Los Drosophila Genetics Predictions-L113 (20 pts.) Part I. Meiosis and Punnett Squares Remember, whenever you use Punnett Squares to solve genetics problems, be sure you are completing each of the following steps: 1) Identify the genotypes of the parents. 2) For the specific traits of interest, figure out what kinds of haploid gametes each parent can make. In each gamete, there should be one allele for each trait of interest. If there is more than one trait, make sure...

The following statements apply to concepts and material discussed in Chapter 15; identify which statement is TRUE. Answers: A common ancestor of two species on evolutionary trees can be found at the point where the two branches meet. Humans evolved from Neanderthals about 50,000 years ago. Mitochondrial DNA is not particularly useful when trying to determine the movement pattern of humans historically across the globe. Scientists can estimate when species diverged from a common ancestor by comparing their Karyotypes. We...

On the island of Notion, in the Factotum Archipelago, there lives a population of pencil bears. A portion of these bears have silky fur, and as a result, are much better surfers. The texture of the fur is determined by a single autosomal locus with two alleles: S (trait allele) and s (wild type allele). In a recent study, researched collected the values in the following table: Table 1. Counts of Pencil Bear fur style by genotype Phenotype Genotype Silky...
