Explanation- The unfolded protein response is a cellular response to the increased amount of unfolded proteins inside the ER lumen. This happens when there is a large demand of insulin production to counterbalance the elevated sugar level. The result is the accumulation of error-proteins inside the ER, which thereby triggers the UPR response in th cells. These misfolded proteins induce ER stress that , ultimately may lead to cell apoptosis(pancreatic beta cell apoptosis) and thereby induce the development of diabetes.
