Interview refers to the purposeful exchanging the ideas between two people, where the interviewer intends to judge the knowledge of the person being interviewed. Pre interview planning is very important and cannot be ignored by the organization. The two important things to consider in pre- interview planning are:

• Determining the objectives of interview: by determining the objectives of interview, I mean making the interview panel clear about the objectives for which the interview is being conducted, the number of persons to be interviewed (along with their qualifications & skills), and what is required from the applicants. This will help gain clarity while the interview will be conducted and selection of the best fit. For example: an organization opens vacancy for assistant professors in a college. For this they need to determine well in advance about the main objective of this interview and make the interviewers understand that they need to see communication, knowledge, experience on dealing with students in any candidate.
• Arranging for proper setting for interview: next, organizations should look into arranging proper setting for the interview in terms of a separate room to conduct the interview, a room with proper chair & table to sit on, proper lightening in the room and no undue disturbance. For example an organization conducting interview arranges the sitting in the area near the reception of the office. The result would be disturbance to candidates, zero privacy, lack of confidence in candidates and improper decision making by the committee. To avoid this, the organization instead should conduct the interview in a separate room away from all chaos in the office.

These things if taken care of in the pre interview planning can help organizations conduct the process effectively, and select the best candidate for the job profile.
