Answer #1

The DNA profile A could come from a suspect as suspect is a male. DNA profile A is that of male.

Reason: Differences between the X chromosome and Y chromosome versions of the amelogenin gene ( i.e AMELX and AMELY respectively) helps in sex determination of unknown human samples. In this case also, amelogenin is used. AMELX’s intron 1 contains a 6-base-pair deletion which is not present in intron 1 of AMELY. This can be detected via polymerase chain reaction (PCR) of intron 1 and carrying out a gel electrophoresis. Two bands of DNA, at 555 bps and 371 bps will be seen if both the AMELX and AMELY versions of the gene are present which confirms the sample is of male .If one band of DNA, at 555 bps is seem ,we can confirm that AMELX version only is present which confirms the sample is of a female. DNA profile A shows 2 bands which confirms it ia a male sample and hence of the male suspect.
