Answer #1

ANSWER 14 : OPTION 1 -

Teenagers with schizophrenia seem to have less gray matter ( fewer synaptic connections) than the teenagers without schizophrenia.

Explanation:

During early childhood the brain of a child produces huge amounts of neurons due to the need of higher synaptic transmissions during the child development. However at a teenage stage in life, the brain naturally starts the process of trimming or pruning the neurons. During this pruning, the execcess number of neurons is reduced so that the efficiency of required neurons is optimised. However, if the printing is execcessive; as in the case of a teenaged schizophrenic brain, the number of neurons is reduced to such an extent that the normal synaptic transmission is highly affected as opposed to being optimised. As a result the synaptic connection is hampered. When the neurons are pruned , the number of cell body of a neuron is also reduced. Since the cell body of a neuron has gray matter, the excessive pruning leads to a reduction in gray matter of the brain of a teenage having schizophrenia. Due to this reason, a tennage schizophrenic brain has lesser neurons, lesser gray matter and therefore; the reduced synaptic transmission.

Question 5 1 pts What is true about the adolescent brain? It plays no part in the teenager's behavior which is mainly controlled by sex hormones. It matures at the same rate in all parts of the brain. The prefrontal cortex matures late and does not reach full maturity until the mid-20s. It increases its amount of synapses in the entire cerebral cortex up to age 20, so that the brain has doubled in size by the end of adolescence.
