Many pathogens allow themselves to be phagocytosed by white blood cells before proliferating.

Phagocytosis is a means of ingesting the pathogens by macrophages and digesting them, so that they are destroyed and are no longer able to establish infection. Unless a pathogen specifically invades white blood cells, phagocytosis remains one of the immune responses by white blood cells for destruction of pathogen. Hence, the statement given in option 2 is incorrect. All the other statements are correct with regards to immune system.
