Answer #1

supervisors gather information about the employees either from 1 source or a combination of sources.one of the ways by which information is collected from 1 source is performance appraisal.advantages of this method are:
1) placement in right fields.this method helps in analysis of the strengths and weaknesses of employees.hence they are assigned accordingly.
2) assistance is provided by the management or the team head for helping the employees to improve their performance.the managers suggest solution and methods to the employees that they can overcome their problems.
3)this process helps in recognising the efforts of employees and also stimulates the employees to get award.hence the employees get motivated.
4) various training and planning and other programs are done for modifying the employees towards the best performance.
5) relationship with employees to management is improved ensuring fair promotion of employees and also fair transfer.also the working atmosphere becomes positive.
6)human resources is properly planned and developed.
disadvantages of this method are:
1)highly time taking process. This involves high time as lots of procedures and process consume a lot of time.
2)not necessarily the evaluator will be effective.sometimes inexperienced evaluator mislead information.
3) manager can do personal biasness and also give the rating on partiality which would be defective or inaccurate.
4) the process mainly deals with the analysis of the defaults and defects of employees performance.
5)at times employees current performance are ignored and an average rating are given to the employer.
6) attention given to human resource development seems inadequate.
7)it is an expensive approach.
other tool for preference management system which can replace the 1 source information collection method is MBO(management by objectives).this process includes that specific objectives are set and also process to achieve it are described.it is a better way to drive the workers towards the common goal.it involves in measuring the performance of an individual and then comparing it with the set standard.
