Why would it be advantageous to plants to be able to get acetyl-CoA from fatty acids?...

Why would it be advantageous to plants to be able to get acetyl-CoA from fatty acids?

-Fatty acids are the macromolecule most easily taken up by the roots of the plant

-Plants lack the ability to synthesize carbohydrates

-Energy derived from photosynthesis primarily comes in the form of fatty acids

-Seeds have a limited amount of space and fatty acids are the most energy dense macromolecule

Answer #1

Plants synthesize carbohydrates and lipids by obtaining energy from sun light. Lipids are the major macromolecules that store large amount of energy. Due to this property, lipids which are stored in the less available space of Seeds are used for the plant development. In seeds fatty acids converted into acetyl CoA which then enters into Glyoxilate cycle for the synthesis of carbohydrates.

Due to seeds do not possess photosynthetic activity, the stored lipids helps in the production of carbohydrates and used for the germination and development of plants.

Hence, option (4) is the correct answeranswer, as fatty acids within limited space of seeds provide energy for plant development.

Plants do not obtain fatty acids by roots because they synthesize them and stores as energy reservoirs.

80.1% Resources Hint Check Answer Animals are not able to convert fatty acids into carbohydrates. The net synthesis of 1 mol of oxaloacetate from 2 mol of acetyl-CoA by the citric acid cycle does not occur because 1 mol of oxaloacetate is used in the cycle for each one generated. Plants are able to convert 2 mol of acetyl-CoA into 1 mol of oxaloacetate with only two additional enzymes not found in animals. This process is called the glyoxylate cycle,...
