As a student of negotiation and conflict management, what does it mean when we say that in situations where relationships are threatened or have been harmed, and where high mistrust have existed or violence occurred, negotiation is particularly difficult but all the more relevant?
Negotiation refers to the discussion between the two parties and coming on to the final conclusion after manipulating the terms and conditions. It aims at coming to the win- win situation and making sure that none of the parties interests are harmed.
But in situations where relationships are threatened, or mistrust have been occurred, in this case there are chances that both the parties get involved in bad conflicting and harming situations and tend to harm each other, drop the work, destroy the office building etc. The only way out to avoid such problems is sitting in for negotiation and discussing the terms and conditions, instead of fighting with each other.
Though negotiating in this situation is difficult, but it is the only relevant way out to settle down the things and at least avoid getting into bad conflicting situations with the parties where the end result will be closure of work or shutting down of the office for longer period of time.
