Artificial tears are lubricating eye drops used to treat dryness and irritation of the occular surfaces. Artificial tears composed of chemical agents unlike the naturally produced eye tear which composed of biologically active components.

Ocular decongestant is a pharmaceutical agent used to treat hyperaemia in the eyes. It is by the process of vasoconstriction. If the use of decongestant alleviate the eye redness,the injection is conjunctival otherwise the redness is due to ciliary origin, so that decongestant is used to differentiate between conjunctival and ciliary injection.

Example of decongestant: Adrenaline, phenylephrine hydrochloride,
