mixed unknown. the goal of this assignment is to identity each organism. so this attachement or picture has both organism seperated by gram stanin and result of each on macConkeys Agar and Columbia CNA. so in order to identify the genus and specise both organsims, i have to order 2 additional test per. MY questions to you is what kinds of test do have to requesd or do in oder to identity  the organism ?

Answer #1

The first one is a Gram + coccus, and the second one is a Gram - bacillus. Let us address how could we proceed to reach identification for each one:

- Gram + coccus: We should proceed to make a catalase test, Sthaphylococcus tests positive while Streptococcus tests negative. If the catalase tests points at Sthaphylococcus I would recomend to proceed with a Mannitol agar test, this fermentation test will tell us if the species is S. aureus or not.

- Gram - bacillus: In this case it would be good to apply a TSI test, which is an agar that contains three sugars: glucose, sucrose and lactose. Different gram - bacilli ferment different of these sugars, some produce gas while doing it and some other don't. This agar also contains iron so it tests for H2S production too. This test is specially made to differentiate between Enterobacteriace, which are all Gram - bacilli. In this casse a second test is not required, since this previous one already gives a huge step in indentifying your species.

in the Micro lab, I got an unknown microorganism. The assignment is to find the microorganism by performing various tests on it. My hypothesis is: Unknown organism is virulent and can cause diseases in the human organism. My question: Which 4 test should I do first to detect my organism and why those tests in particular? (I am thinking aerotolerance, endospore, hemolysis...) depending on each test result can you give an example of the microorganism that it can be? Colony...

You are given a mixed culture of two organisms in a small tube of TSB. These two organisms include a Gram-negative strain (your bacterial strain to identify) and a Gram-positive strain (a contaminant). Your first task is to isolate these organisms which will help you identify which Gram-negative strain you are working with. 1) You inoculate two streak plates on TSA media and MacConkey Agar using aseptic technique. For each medium, state whether the medium is selective, differential, or neither and...

IMPORTANT: do not start your key with the same test your instructor used to start the example in class. Draw your chart by hand on the next page titled “Dichotomous Key.” Your key should include all the tests needed to...

NEISSERIA EXPERIMENT MICROBIOLOGY LAB (Revised March 2016) Background There are two main pathogens in the genus Neisseria: N.gonorrhoeae and N meningitidis, along with many species which are normal flora for mucus membranes like the nasopharynx, vagina, urogenital tract, etc. In order to diagnose gonorrhea in a male, a Gram stain of the urethral discharge should reveal Gram negative diplococci and many white blood cells. This is considered sufficient grounds to treat for gonorrhea. In a female, diagnosis must be based...

Question 6 1.5 points Save Answer Bacterial ID Flow Chart.docx A student in a microbiology lab was assigned the task of determining the identity of a bacterial species. First she performed a quadrant streak on a TSA plate. After 24 hrs. incubation, she aseptically picked up a portion of a single isolated colony for a gram stain. Her results indicated purple spherical-shaped bacteria that grew in grapelike clusters with no apparent endospores. She then performed a series of biochemical tests...
