which of the following glands produces an oily substance that lubricated the hair and skin.
Sebaceous glands
Sebaceous gland are small oil-producing glands present in the skin of mammals and they produce a fatty secretion called sebum. Theses glands are usually attached to hair follicles and release the sebum into the follicular duct. Through the follicular duct sebum reaches the surface of the skin. Sebum is a complex mixture of oils including triglycerides and fatty acid breakdown products, wax esters, squalene, cholesterol esters and cholesterol. The sebum lubricates the skin to protect it against friction. Sebaceous glands are holocrine glands found throughout the surface of the body except in palms, soles and dorsum of the feet. The secretions are synthesized in the cytoplasm of the cell and released by the rupture of the plasma membrane of the cell. These are large and abundant in the face and scalp. Sebum also has antibacterial and anti inflammatory function.
