Answer #1

According to Kantianism, ethical decisions of humans are guided by goodwill and duty. The two versions of the categorical imperative include acting in a manner that would ensure categorization a universal approach and the difficulty in considering humanity as the end. Thus, it emphasizes on the duty, goodwill and categorical imperative of the ethical decisions. This indicates the human beings themselves are responsible for the duties and responsibilities related to the food security and hunger issues in the society. They are equally responsible through humanity and obligation towards others to ensure that there are no violations regarding human rights in food security and hunger issues in the world.

On the other hand, utilitarianism theory provides that the actions of people must produce happiness and pleasure to a large number of people. It emphasizes on the potential consequences of action arising from the value of making considerations about the happiness and comfort of others. The hunger and poverty issues occur due to the unequal distribution of food and security to the people in the society. While one section of the society maintains high standard of living with luxurious items, the other section lives below the poverty line struggling to meet their basic requirements of life. Thus, based on utilitarianism approach, it is the responsibility of humans to reduce their standard of living and renounce of pleasure to ensure saving the lives of people below poverty line. They should be accountable for the consequences of their combined actions on the environment in which they are located.

Thus, both the approaches are similar in the sense that they emphasize on the roles and responsibilities of individuals in the society. While Kantianism focuses mainly on the human rights and obligations towards the society, utilitarinism focuses on the happiness and peace of others in the society.
