Socioeconomic status is a term that is used to describe the class standing of an individual or group. Socioeconomic status is usually measured by determining education, income, occupation or a composite of these three dimensions. It is indeed a reliable predictor is a person’s health. Nutrition is one of the main sources defining a person’s health. Today in this highly inflated economy what you can nourish depends upon what you can afford. It also depends on the occupation of the person as his health is also related to his lifestyle, stress levels and work schedules. Education being the basics are also one of the most challenging parts for the people of low socioeconomic status. They are usually deprived of formal qualitative education thus stealing away the earning capacity and a better life. Physical health definitely depends on the qualitative nutrition and thus the affordability and in turn the socioeconomic status. However Mental health is equally important and it is also related to the socioeconomic status. Deprived from social privileges and many big corners of life, struggling with the quantum’s of society the people of low socioeconomic status also tend to suffer from higher vulnerability to poor mental health than the others in the society. They become the softer targets for trauma, birth disorders, diseases , Low IQ, depression, anti social personality disorders, aggression problems etc.
