MANDATORY SUBJECTS = These are those elements of the bargaining process that can have a direct effect on the wages, working hours, and working conditions or the different terms related to employment. These must be included in the bargaining process as these elements are important to ensure the facilitating of the basic services and benefits to the employees. In the absence of these elements, the workers cannot operate safely.
PERMISSIVE OR VOLUNTARY SUBJECTS = These are the negotiation terms that are not related to the employment directly. These elements do not include the terms related to wages, working hours, and working conditions or different terms. These types of elements of negotiation are used according to the business or industry. This includes Negotiation ground rules, the makeup of the bargaining team, and so on.
These are important to include in the bargaining terms as this will decide how the bargaining process can be progressed and who can be the part of the process.
