Antigenic drift :

2. Produces new strains of the virus.
3. Involvement of only one virus takes place.
4. It takes place frequently.
5. Same species of organism are infected.
6. Small mutation in the RNA takes place.
7. Mutations are spontaneous as well as random.
8. Due to presence of antibodies and drugs it is easy to treat.

Antigenic drift needs annual inflienza immunization because of antigenic variations. The influenza virus mainly changes through drift. Antigenic drift means the accumalation of point mutations gradually in the yearly circulation of influenza as a result of high variation rates which are associated RNA dependent RNA polymerase at the time of replication of virus.
