1. The carboniferous period was dominated by extinct and some of the extant seedless vascular plants that include the moss, ferns and horntails. The sporophyte is the dominant generation and also the extinct plants were very large such as the lycophytes. Hence the correct answer is: Whole forests were dominated by the large seedless vascular plants during the Carboniferous period.

2. As said in the above answer the lycophytes were the largest plants in the carboniferous period and hence to build homes log from these plants would have been used. Hence the correct answer is: lycophytes and bryophytes.
