Answer #1

Answer is hydrogen ions.

As the free electron travels through the electron transport chain, the energy of the electron is used to pump hydrogen ions from the stroma into the thylakoid lumen. Accumulation of hydrogen ions inside the thylakoid lumen creates a concentration gradient. Then, the hydrogen ions diffuse from their high concentration area (the thylakoid lumen) to low concentration area (the stroma) and ATP is created.
