Answer #1

Answer 11. Each cell will be approx. 0.5mm long. Because there are 4 cells present end-to-end as 1-2-3-4. Diameter is 2mm means 2/4 = 0.5mm.

Answer 12. High power objective lens means 40X. If the eyepiece is 10X then total magnification is 10 X 40 = 400 times as that of the naked eye.

  • Daphnia is eukaryotic and belongs to the Plantae kingdom. It is a small water crustacean also known as water flea, member of Phylum Arthropoda.
  • Spirogyra is eukaryotic and belongs to the Plantae kingdom. It is a filamentous algae that has got ribbon shaped chloroplast and divides asexually by fragmentation, belongs to class Cholrophyceae.
  • Elodea is eukaryotic and belongs to the Plantae kingdom. It is a common waterweed commonly used for aquarium vegetation.
  • Volvox is eukaryotic and belongs to Plantae kingdom. It is a member of class Cholrophyceae, it is an example of colonial algae.
  • Spirostomum is eukaryotic belonging to kingdom protista. It is a free living ciliate.

Put "no" in the box if the technique could not be used. If light microscopy can be used, name one technique (bright-field, phase-contrast, fluorescence, etc.) that you think would be effective. You will find some useful information in Appendix 1 of this manual and Chapter 18 of your textbook. Structure or phenomenon Could...
