Some of the features of chordates' characters are:

1. Nerve cord: A single and hollow nerve cord can be found below the dorsal surface

2. Notochord: A flexible rod called notochord is found dorsal to the gut

3. Pharyngeal pouches: These slits connect the pharynx to the outside surface of air for gaseous exchange

4 Postnatal tail: A postanal tail beyond the anal orifice

5 Body segments: The body is divided into small or large segments called somites

6 Endostyle: It is an elongated groove of the pharynx emerging from the ventral part of pharyngeal pouches and serves as food pipe.
