Human Service model - Human services is between the individual and the environment and balancing out the two of them. For example if a client has a mental illness it will affect their behavior. The human service model will treat this client by working with both the individual and the environment that is around him. In this model it is important to focus on the positive aspects of the client rather than the negatives. Human services is an interdisciplinary field of study with the objective of meeting human needs through an applied knowledge base, focusing on prevention as well as remediation of problems, and maintaining a commitment to improving the overall quality of life of service populations. The process involves the study of social technologies (practice methods, models, and theories), service technologies (programs, organizations, and systems), and scientific innovations that are designed to ameliorate problems and enhance the quality of life of individuals, families and communities to improve the delivery of service with better coordination, accessibility and accountability. The factors those have contributed in the development of human service model are:

  • A practice that involves simultaneously working at all levels of society (whole-person approach) in the process of promoting the autonomy of individuals or groups.
  • Making informal or formal human services systems more efficient and effective
  • advocating for positive social change within society
  • Crisis training
  • Disaster and trauma training
  • Ethical standards
  • Evidence based practice and common factors
  • Skills standards

Human Services provide a service to a client who is experiencing some degree of hardship. Whether it is an acute or crisis situation or more of a chronic condition, the Human Service provides services that help to mitigate difficulties and provide relief for the individual undergoing the hardship. Usually this is done in such a way as to empower the client to make important lifestyle changes that will allow them to change their challenging situation into a more stable and healthy environment for themselves and their loved ones.
