2. In Drosophila, the genes b (black body), vg (vestigial wings), and c (curved wings) are linked. The genes are in the order vg-b-c. Shown here is the genotypic arrangement in a heterozygous fly:

vg- b+c+

=====

vg+ b c-

a. Indicate all of the different gamete genotypes that could arise from this parent.

b. What two gamete genotypes will be made in the highest frequency from this heterozygote?

c. What two gamete genotypes will be made in the lowest frequency from this heterozygote?

Answer #1

Ans A) 6 types of gametes can be form due to the cross between the parents vg- b+c+ // vg+ b c-

The gametes are 1) vg+ b+ c+ (2) vg-b c- (3) vg+ b+ c- (4) vg- b c+ (5) vg- b+c- (6) vg+ b c+

Ans B) The two gametes which could form heighest frequency are the single cross over between 1) vg+ b+ c+ (2) vg-b c- or (5) vg- b+c- (6) vg+ b c+

Ans C) The two gametes which could form lowest frequency are the double cross over between  (4) vg- b c+ (5) vg- b+c-. The double cross over occur by the transfer of middle allele present in the linkage. The double cross over occur very least in term of frequency.

    In Drosophila, b+ is the allele for normal body color and at the same gene b is the allele for black body color. A second gene controls wing shape. The shape can be either normal (vg+) or vestigial (vg). A cross is made between a homozygous wild type fly and fly with black body and vestigial wings. The offspring were then mated to black body, vestigial winged flies. The following segregation ratio was observed: Phenotype # Observed Wild Type (normal,...

The dominant allele for this gone (B) produces wild type body color Vestigial: a recessive...
