Why are people with interdependent selves more likely to act differently across different situations?
The interdependent view of oneself focused on relationships with
others rather and how their behaviors affect others rather than
internal qualities. It focuses on what others think of them and
their actions. Here are some pointers on it:
-Viewed as participants of a large unit
-"reflexive": contingent on position relative to others
-interdependent individuals are closely related and grounded by
relationships with others rather than separate entities.
-Requires ppl to take on roles that govern how they feel and act
towards their relationship partners. And these relationships
indicate the group the individual belongs too.
-Fluid between interdependent individuals in group. NOT for
out-group members. ppl do not become ingroup members easily + form
relationships. And ppl do not disspate from group easily either
(its their identity).
~behave differently to outgroup members versus in group
