The stage-gate process is a project management technique developed by Dr.Robert Cooper and basically describes the process of innovation or development of a new product. It is also sometimes referred to as the waterfall model. As per my understanding, the model is very intuitive and states that each product development consists of numerous stages that are separated by gates. The gates are nothing but decision-making points, which help in deciding how, when and which way or whether or not to proceed to the next stage.The model can be used for NPD as well as improving existing products.
