The two types of flow rates are

1 laminar

2 Turbulent

Laminar flow is proportional to the average velocity of pouring.

Hence if pouring velocity is high the flow will be laminar else turbulent.

The turbulence flow causes trapping of gases and hence create cavities in mould.

These are important in design of Gating system.
