Answer #1

1. The appropriate amino acyl tRNA binds to an elongation factor bound to GTP.

2. Accomodation and proofreading of the codon -anticodon pairing.

3. The amino acyl -tRNA elongation factor - GTP complex is bound to the A site of the ribosomal initiation complex.

4. The GTP is hydrolyzed and the elongation factor - GDP complex is released.

5. Peptide bond formation between the polypeptide chain on the tRNA in the P site and the amino acid on the tRNA.

6. Translocation (the ribosome moves one codon towards the 3' end of mRNA with the help of an elongation.

7. The previous step repeat for each amino acid residue that is added to the growing polypeptide chain.

8. The termination is signaled by the stop codon and the polypeptide chain is released.

Three stages of peptide chain elongation-

1. decoding - in this case, the ribosome selects and bind amino acyl-tRNA , whose anticodon is complementary to the mRNA codon in the A site.

2. Transpeptidation- The peptidyl group on the P site of tRNA is transferred to the aminoacyl group in the A site through the formation of ppetide bond.

3. Translocation - A site and P site tRNAs are respectively transferred to the P site and E site accompanied by their bound mRNA; i.e., the mRNA together with its base paired tRNA is ratcheted through the ribosome by one codon.
