Briefly describe one factor that keeps closely related species from reproducing successfully.
One of the factor that keeps closely related species from reproducing successfully is mechanical isolation. In mechanical isolation, male and female will not be able mate if their genitals are not compatible. An insect's rigid carapaces act analogous to a lock and key this will in turn only allow mating between individuals with only compatible structures, that is, males and females of the same species.

One of the features that separates E. Coli from closely-related species is it’s ability to ferment lactose very efficiently. If the lactose in the EMB plate is replaced with glucose, will it affect the specificity or sensitivity of the media? What impact will the change have in terms of conclusions that can be drawn from the data?
Question 6 An example of a postzygotic isolating mechanism between closely related species would be which of the following? One species flowers in April, the other in August. The two species are pollinated by different species of bees. A zygote produced by syngamy of sperm and egg of the two species contains an uneven number of chromosomes. The pollen from one species will not germinate on the stigma of the other. One species is terrestrial, the other totally aquatic.
Consider two closely related bacterial species. The first species has no IS elements, while the second has many IS elements. Which species do you think would be easier to map via HFR mapping? Group of answer choices A. Species 1 would be easier to map. B.Species 2 would be easier to map. C.There is on way to predict this given the information presented. D.Both would be eqaully easy to map.
Two closely related species of birds come into secondary contact and begin producing fertile hybrid offspring. Give ONE potential outcome that could follow this event over evolutionary time.
ter 7 HW wing Key Concepts: Reproductive Barriers ip 1. Some closely related species of snails cannot mate because their shells spiral in opposite directions, making it impossible for their reproductive organs to be aligned. 2. Although some closely related (but separate) species of salamander can mate with each other to produce offspring, the offspring fail to develop normally and cannot reproduce. hybrid 3. In North America, one species of garter snake lives primarily in the water, while another species...
Genetic differences between closely related species are due to changes at both synonymous and nonsynonymous sites (there can also be structural changes, including insertions and deletions, but disregard those for the moment). Do you expect the fraction of total differences at synonymous sites to be greater among elephant species or among nematode species? Explain your answer.
Two closely related species have different niches. What reproductive barrier is possible? mechanical, behavioral, temporal, habitat, or gametic
