The major habitat for L.Gigantea is on the cliff faces and rocks on wave exposed shores. They are most commonly found in Baja California and also in scarce north of San Francisco. The shell size of the molluscs has drastically changed due to major disturbance caused by human predation and disturbance in the ecology. The harvesters collect the molluscs and hence there is reduced reproduction. The survival rates of the molluscs have drastically changed.
