According the US Department of Labor, in 2014, women made 79% of what men made who work in the same positions. Several variables account for this wage gap. Based upon what you learned about wage gaps this week, what impact do you think outlawing pay secrecy would have on the gender wage gap in the United States? Do you think the private sector should make salaries public records like government employee salaries? Why or why not?

Answer #1

EXPLANATION:

The wage gap between men and women is smaller for women in the states that have outlawed pay secrecy and that women in these states tend to earn more than women in other states. The effects of this piece of legislation are heightened for women with higher education.I think even the private sector should make their record public. This will increase the level of transparency and avoid discrimination of women on the basis of gender.
