For this discussion, read the vignettes below. Think about the following question: How does where you live impact how you live—and how you fall ill? Mrs. X is an inactive, overweight white female in her late 50s. She was born and raised in Georgia in a low-income family, and was recently diagnosed with diabetes. Y is a five-year-old located in sub-Saharan Africa. It has been particularly wet, hot, and humid this year, and Y has just fallen ill with malaria. Malaria is preventable and treatable, but Y’s family does not have the money for the treatment. Think about the social and behavioral determinants and disparities that are present in these scenarios, and think about the impact they have. Then, in your initial post, address the following: If you could change one aspect of the biographies presented above, what would it be, and what impact would it have?
I think the world has progressed a lot in terms of economy, life style, cultural tolerance and technology but it has also left a huge gap in the lives of people who live in different parts of the world. Almost all the developed countries boast of being self-sufficient and provide a high standard of life to its citizens but they have all at some point exploited the natural and human resources of the underdeveloped and developing countries and their cultural heritage. This has led to the downfall of people in those countries in getting proper basic facilities such as shelter, education and medicine. People who work hard in difficult situation do not have access to healthy food and life style, whereas, people who lead a white collar life has got plenty and become physically ill.
I would make both born in a developed country where they both get enough social support from the government. Y won’t get infected by Malaria and X won’t struggle without the medical support.
