What can companies do to encourage their employees to feel comfortable in bringing issues to management's attention regarding conflicts and issues in the workplace?
Companies can encourage their employes to be more open about the issues faced by them at the workplace in following ways.
(i) Creation of channels of communication across levels, particularly from bottom to top, so that the voices from bottom may become more heared in the higher ranks who might have a different picture of floor level as painted by those in the middle.
(ii) Formulation of an anti discrimination and anti victimisation policy which prevents retaliation against those who prefer to voice their opinions against those in higher positions.
(iii) Practicing job rotation to discourage the formation of groups which might make life difficult for others.
(iv) Establishing anonymous channels for posting grievances to a dedicated cell comprising of high level managers who would immediately look into the matter.
(v) Making the conflict resolution process time bound for prompt resolution amd avoidance of any escalation.
(vi) Conducting informal events which improves the interpersonal communication between employees. It will create more interpersonal bonds, thereby preventng conflicts.
(vii) Instilling confidence among the employees ( particularly middle to low rank employees) about the certainty of being listened to, through proper and effective communication.
