Charismatic leaders have exceptional qualities and unique other centric qualities which takes care of the emotional needs of those around them. They know how to use body language and social cues to make others comfortable. Their main traits include humility, emotionally connecting, having generosity, being creative, continuously focus on innovation and having the determination to achieve the unachievable.
Steve Jobs the founder of Apple was a charismatic leader. He has been called the greatest executive of our era. He played a key role in revolutionizing 6 industries namely personal computing, animated movies, music, phones, tablet computing, and digital publishing. A company facing insolvency in 1996 in less than 90 days was turned around by him to become the most valued company in 2011. He made Pixar the most profitable studio in the history of Hollywood by producing movies like “The Toy Story” and “Finding Nemo”.
Steve job was a mix of good and bad. He was known to be an extremely keen worker, pushing employees to their limits and pushing them to continuously innovate and focus on attention to detail. He was also known as a bully and could be extremely abusive. He was prone to fits of anger and would dismiss a man at a drop of hat. Attention to detail, the product appearance even if it is not visible were critical. He would tell his team to give the consumers what they did not expect. He had 200 patents to his name. He was known to eat varied diets. He focused on achieving perfection which includes the type of images and music which would be used at Macworld. He did not believe in market research because he felt the consumers were not aware of their latent needs. He was a visionary and able to sell his vision and desire to achieve the unachievable. He was terrible with some and good with others. He was able to reposition and revamp dying Apple by joining back and taking it new heights by focusing on a few good products. He managed to compete with large brands like IBM and Xerox because of his focused and innovative approach.
Lido Anthony Iacocca was a charismatic leader who was brought in to Chrysler in the late 1970s to save the company from bankruptcy. He used his persuasive skills to persuade Congress to give a bank loan to Chrysler. He example of his memorable slogan which stated; “if you can find a better car buy it.”
