Answer #1

Two types of reaction our body provides to a stressor are;

1. Hypothalamic pituitary adrenal reaction;

The stressor activates the Hypothalamic, which stimulates Pituitary gland. The pituitary gland secretes adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) which acts on adrenal glands. These glands in turn produce the hormone corticosteroid such as Cortisol which enables the body to maintain steady supplies of blood sugar. Adequate and steady blood sugar levels help person to cope with prolonged stressor, and helps the body to return to normal.

2. Sympatho- Medullary Reaction;

In response to stressor, hypothalamus activates the adrenal medulla which produces hormone adrenaline. This hormone prepares the body ready for a fight or flight response. Physiological reaction includes increased heart rate, blood pressure, increased body temperature etc.
