Answer #1

purple tomatoes are pigmented by a large amount of lycopene and lesser amounts of beta-carotene, driven by the 'red' ('R') gene, as well as by chlorophyll from the 'green-flesh' ('gf') gene. The skin of these tomatoes is clear driven by the mutant allele ('y') of the 'yellow' gene.

red tomato is pigmented by a large amount of lycopene and lesser amounts of beta-carotene, driven by the 'red' ('R') gene. The skin of these tomatoes also has a yellow pigment driven by the 'yellow' ('Y') gene.

For a (fictitious) haploid fungus, the starting point in the biosynthesis of the amino acid arginine is Compound X, which is always present in, and absorbed from the environment. The arginine biosynthetic pathway is: Enzyme B → Compound Y Compound z Enzyme C Compound X Enzyme A arginine A mutant strain of genotype a (lacking enzyme A) is crossed to a mutant strain of genotype c (lacking enzyme C). the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster, an allele (v) of the gene vermillion gives flies purple eyes and is recessive to the wildtype red eye color (v+). An allele y of the yellow gene, gives flies a yellow body color compared to the dominant brown body color (yt). A heterozygous females for the two different mutations is test-crossed with mutant (i.e., homozygous recessive) males. The phenotypes of the progeny of this cross and their corresponding numbers are given below Yellow body,...

    1. In loppins (fictitious diploid invertebrates), ear shape is controlled by two genes with two alleles each; upright ears (F) is dominant to floppy ears (f), and double-pointed ears (P) is dominant to single-pointed ears (p). Moreover, due to genetic interactions, floppy ears are always single-pointed. A loppin with floppy ears is crossed to a loppin with upright single-pointed ears, and the phenotypic ratios in the offspring are 2 floppy : 1 double-pointed upright : 1 single-pointed upright. What are...

Let's say you have a pea plant that has the dominant traits for Tall stalks and Yellow seeds (TY). You want to know if this plant is homozygous for these traits, or heterozygous. What would you cross it with, and what is this called? A Monohybrid cross: TY X TY a plant with the same phenotype B. Dihybrid cross: a plant with a different trait (pink flowers and tall stalks) C. Test-cross; a plant homozygous for the recessive alleles: short...

please answer two question below thankyou e) 9; 9 3. In another plant species, the presence and type of hairs on the plant are controlled by epistatic interaction between two independently assorting genes. Gene C determines whether the plant has hairs (dominant) or not (recessive); Rene D determines whether the hairs are straight (dominant) or curly (recessive). In a cross between a straight-haired plant and a curly- haired plant, 1/4 of the offspring have no hairs. 3/8 have straight hairs,...

Genetics smurfs worksheet help with Genes, enzymatic pathways, and mutations Information for Questions 1-4. Smurfs are imaginary creatures popularized by a 1980's television cartoon. You are likely familiar with the village of blue-bodied Smurfs recently revived by in a Hollywood movie. However, you may be unaware that there also once existed a neighboring village of white-bodied Smurfs. A purebred sweet corn plant that produces purple and smooth kernels pollinates a purebred plant that produces yellow and wrinkled kernels. When the F1 was testcrossed, four types of kernels on the cobs were observed in almost equal proportions: purple and smooth, purple and wrinkled, yellow and smooth, and yellow and wrinkled. Which of the following statement(s) are TRUE? I. The F1 plants can only produce purple and wrinkled kernels when selfcrossed. II. If the parent that produces yellow and...
