Figure 1: Testing the stretch reflex of the biceps brachii
MATERIALS 1. a blinded volunteer…use a blindfold…you don’t have to find someone who is blind! 2. two textbooks PROCEDURE:- 1. Have the volunteer balance a heavy textbook on his or her hand (eyes closed). 2. Take a second book and drop it from a short height onto the first book. Tell the volunteer when you are going to drop the book (similar to Fig 1). 3. Record what happens to the arm and forearm. 4. Repeat step two a number of times. As alternatives to step two:- a) Snatch the first book away and record what happens. b) Just tap the first book instead of dropping the second.
Why…ie Describe why the volunteer responded in the way they did when you repeated step 2
The volunteer responded in this way because when the step 2 is repeated, the stretch receptors of the biceps brachii are activated and the message is passed to the cervical spinal nerve 5 entering into branchial plexus, completely & cervical spinal nerve 6 entering into the distal arm partially. This message induces the involuntary reflex action of contraction in biceps musle and the fore arm jerking through reflex arc.

Place t hat Place two photogales in gate mode along the track and record the distance between the gates 3 Release the and to Release the cart from the top of the track and record the time it takes the cart to pass through each gate...
Part I Color changes of Methyl Violet. We will study the following reaction: HMV (aq) + MV (aq) + H* (aq) yellow greenish-blue violet Step 1. Place about 4 mL of distilled water in a regular test tube. Add two drops of methyl violet indicator. Record the color of the solution. Violet Next, add drop by drop, add 6M HCI. This forces equilibrium to be shifted to the left or right-circle the right answer). Adding HCl changes color from to...
In our experiment we will use three different substrates: 1°,
n-butyl chloride; 2°, sec-butyl chloride; and 3°, tert- butyl
chloride, and we will evaluate their reactivity and the rate of the
reaction in an SN1 reaction. We will use an acid-base indicator to
monitor the completion of the reaction and a salt, silver nitrate,
to obtain a precipitate. The success of the reaction is evidenced
by the change in color of the indicator (from orange to red) due to
the...
Experiment Sd 2. Use the data in Table 1 to calculate the percent change in amplitude (Am ) activity that occurs between the 0-20 sand 60-80 intervals. Do the same for What accounts for the difference in the percent change observed in grip streng the two time intervals? change in amplitude (AmV) in electrical intervals. Do the same for grip strength. age observed in grip strength and Am V for 3. Compare mean grip strengths and Am V for the...
1) What are the two hypotheses of this experiment? What are you
predictions for each hypotheses & briefly describe how you will
test the given hypothesis and the one you generated.
2) What is a histogram AND why is it used for this lab instead
of just plotting each individual's data?
3) Does the multi-year TRC (total ridge count) support each
hypothesis? (explain your answer in terms of the shape and the
position of the curve.)
4) What might account...
For the preparation and standardization of NaOH with KHP im supposed to boil water for 1hr and 30 min to remove CO2....the problem is that if I don't boil it for that long and (30 min) b/c of not enough time but I put the water I boiled for 1/2 hr aproximately into a NaOH bottle with a CO2 absorber and stored it there for a few days. I would assume that I would have to boil the water again...but...

Grignard reagent THE GRIGNARD REAGENT-PREPARATION AND REACTION In this experiment, you will prepare a Grignard reagent, phenyl magnesium bromide, from bromobenzene and magnesium metal. The Grignard reagent will then react with methyl benzoate to form triphenylmethanol. Introduction Grignard reagents, such as organomagnesium halides, were discovered in 1910 by French chemist Victor Grignard. The Grignard reaction is one of the most general methods for carbon- carbon bond formation in all of organic chemistry....
Hi there! I need to compare two essay into 1 essay, and make it interesting and choose couple topics which im going to talk about in my essay FIRST ESSAY “Teaching New Worlds/New Words” bell hooks Like desire, language disrupts, refuses to be contained within boundaries. It speaks itself against our will, in words and thoughts that intrude, even violate the most private spaces of mind and body. It was in my first year of college that I read Adrienne...
Using the book, write another paragraph or two: write 170
words:
Q: Compare the assumptions of physician-centered and
collaborative communication. How is the caregiver’s role different
in each model? How is the patient’s role different?
Answer: Physical-centered communication involves the specialists
taking control of the conversation. They decide on the topics of
discussion and when to end the process. The patient responds to the
issues raised by the caregiver and acts accordingly. On the other
hand, Collaborative communication involves a...
