A protein with anti-microbial properties are known as "host defense peptides," which play a crucial role in the innate immune responses. These anti-microbial peptides act as broad spectrum anti-biotics in our body and can kill a variety of gram positive and gram negative bacteria, fungi, enveloped viruses and ransformed cancerous cells. So, isolating and analyzing a protein with anti-microbial properties a very useful endeavor from their anti-microbial point of view.
