a runner ran a marathon (42.0km) in 2 hrs and 57 mins on a course which starts and finishes at the same location. What is the average speed in m/s? What is the average velocity of the runner?

I figured out the average speed. But when it came to the calculations of average velocity I have no idea. With the equation the average velocity should be same right? No. I don't understand.
