1. Reverse transcriptase.

Reverse transcriptase is an enzyme mostly found in the viral system, have the capability to synthesise DNA from RNA template. After the elucidation of it's function, we have exploited the function of this enzyme in molecular biology research purposes. We can isolate the RNA from the organism and use the enzyme reverse transcriptase which will make a new DNA copy from that isolated RNA. It is very useful for the study of eukaryotic gene function and to make the library. In case of a mature mRNA, it doesn't contain any intron region, so if you can make a copy of the mRNA into cDNA, it might help in study the functionality of that gene.

3. An Operon.

You wake up one morning to your roommate exclaiming about her sudden hair growth. She has been supplementing her diet with a strange new fungus purchased at the local farmer's market. You take samples of the fungus to your lab and you find that this fungus does indeed make a protein (the harE protein) that stimulates hair growth. You construct a fungal genomic DNA library in the hope of cloning the harЕ gene. If you succeed you will be a...
