Do you agree or disagree with this post?

There is so much that I learned in this class. I never knew about the process that is involved in hiring someone. I always knew that when a friend started the interview process that it was going to take a couple weeks or more before they knew if they got the job or not. It always started with the phone interview, maybe another phone interview, then if they made the cut from that then they went in for the in-person interview and that was usually with at least two people and then, if they made that cut they usually had to wait a week or so before they heard one way or another if they got the job. Now I know what goes on behind the scenes in the hiring process. I had never heard of the KSAO’s before, but now that I know what they are I can also tweak my resume more to better fit into these qualifications. Just in general I learned a lot about the hiring process, so I can be better prepared when I start applying for jobs in the near future. Learning about the Internal vs. External hiring was interesting as well. I have always had some idea about the legal issues and ethical issues in the workforce, but it was nice to get a more detailed and in-depth research into this area especially since people are only about diversity in the workforce. Government has put in so much regulations and laws that you have to be really on top of the legal issues. I work at two jobs that are not corporate and are very small businesses and yes, we have to adhere to the same legal requirements to a degree, but all of what I learned will go towards my future jobs that I will be applying for. Having this class has given me an understanding of the staffing process that I did not know existed.

Answer #1

I agree with the post. Below are my comments -

Hiring process involves a number of activities that happen internally among the hiring manager, staffing manager, recruiter, payroll manager and functional department managers. The typical activities involved in hiring process include -

1. Identification of the resource requirement by functional managers.

2. Communication of the requirement to staffing managers and hiring managers.

3. Creation of job description by hiring managers.

4. Posting the job openings through various avenues.

5. Recruitment process which involves multiple rounds of selection and assessment.

6. Finalizing the recruitment decision and communicating to the candidates.

7. Creating induction training and process for the new employees/hires.

Other aspects of hiring include internal vs external hiring where internal hiring is the recruitment of an internal candidate or current employee into the new position and external hiring is the recruitment of the candidate from outside.

Other Human Resource issues which are legal and regulatory related at workplace include diversity management, equal employment opportunities, working on multiple jobs etc.
