What does the phrase "ventilation-perfusion inhomogeneity" mean?
Ventilation means the breathing in of air into the alveoli. V stands for ventilation.
Perfusion is the blood passing through the pulmonory capillaries around the alveoli. It is represented by Q.
The oxygen from the air in the alveoli is taken into the capillaries and the CO2 from the heart in the capillaries are taken inside the alveoli.
Ventilation perfusion ratio is the ratio between ventilation and perfusion. V/Q
Normally , into the respiratory tract 4 litres of blood pass through every minute and 5 litres of blood pass through the alveolar capillaries per minute.
So the V/Q ratio is 4/5 that is 0.8 .
The value of V/Q can be less than or more than 0.8. This higher or lower V/Q ratio is called ventilation perfusion inhomogenity. It occurs mainly because of any part of lungs do not receive oxygen but there is blood flow ,or if in any part of lulungs there is blood flow but no oxygen. This occurs due to any kind of diseases of the respiratory tract like Asthma, pneumonia, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, chronic bronchitis etc .
What are difference between acute respiratory failure and ARDS including perfusion and ventilation (match and mismatch) and normal versus abnormal Abg and nursing care? Perfusion and ventilation (match and mismatch): -what is ventilation-perfusion (v/q) mismatch? -what are the cause and dead space? -what is venous arterial shunts? -what are diffusion defects? -what is alteration of capillary membrane? What are the causes? What are nursing care of patients with significant pulmonary compromise? What are general findings of pulmonary embolism as it...
Define Ventilation Respiration Perfusion WORK OF BREATHING (What are you assessing for?) Airway Resistance
Local perfusion regulation of the lungs depends on 10. Regulation of local perfusion to lung ventilation units depends mainly upon: a. alveolar CO, tension. b. the mixed venous blood (pulmonary arterial) hydrogen ion concentration (pH) c. alveolar O2 tension. d. the mixed venous blood (pulmonary arterial) o, tension e. the balance between sympathetic neural stimulation of vascular smooth muscle and parasympathetic stimulation of airway smooth muscle.
What specifically does the phrase “business of medicine” mean to you?
Ventilation, perfusion, and exchange of gases are the major purposes of: 1. Respiration 2. Circulation 3. Aerobic metabolism 4. Anaerobic metabolism Answer: Rationale:
Which will decrease the PAO2? Answers A-D A Any ventilation/perfusion imbalance B High V/Q disorders only с Lack of sufficient perfusion D Both obstructive and restrictive disorders
Identify the factors essential to successful ventilation, perfusion, and diffusion. Discuss how oxygen and carbon dioxide are transported to and from the lungs and capillaries. Also discuss factors affecting the diffusion of these substances across the alveolar membrane.
What does the phrase “prevention vs treatment” mean to you in reference to your own personal health and wellness?
17. Scintiphotography, a special imaging technique, allows ventilation or blood flow distribution to be seen in the lungs (ventilation or perfusion scans). Why does regional alveolar hypoxia caused by mucous plugging produce a perfusion scan like one produced by a pulmonary embolus that blocks blood pulmonary flow, and how might one distinguish between these two conditions? . noints!
What does the phrase “in control” mean with respect to processes? An in-control process is one in which the output falls within the specification limits. An in-control process is statistically stable; it is free of assignable or non-random variation An in-control process is one in which the process width (i.e., 6σ) is substantially wider than the specification width (i.e., the upper specification limit minus the lower specification limit) None of these is correct
