a) 3 glucose --> 6 pyruvate + 6 ATP

In glycolysis, one molecule of glucose is converted into two molecules of pyruvate. During this process, 2 molecules of ATP are used and 4 ATP are produced. The net energy gain during this conversion is 2 ATP.

Since, three molecules of glucose produce 6 molecules of pyruvate and 6 ATP. Thus, the direct energy gain or cost in ATP from three molecules of glucose is 6 ATP.

b) 3 glucose-6-phosphate --> 6 pyruvate + 9 ATP

In glycolysis, one molecule of glucose-6-phosphate is converted into two molecules of pyruvate. During this process, one molecule of ATP are used and 4 ATP are produced. The net energy gain during this conversion is 3 ATP.

Since, three molecules of glucose-6-phosphate produce 6 molecules of pyruvate and 9 ATP. Thus, the direct energy gain or cost in ATP from three molecules of glucose is 9 ATP.
