Solubility Rules are statements regarding ionic compounds (containing cations and anions) as to whether these compounds are soluble or insoluble IN WATER. For this experiment, two applicable solubility rules are “Acetate-containing compounds (i.e. containing a cation and the acetate anion) are always soluble” and “Fluoride-containing compounds (i.e. containing a cation and the fluoride anion) are generally insoluble, except those containing Group I A cations and the ammonium (NH4+) cation.”

Look up & list what Group I A cations are. It must be understood that if the RULE says insoluble, the EXCEPTION(S) mean(s) soluble, and vice-versa.

Salts can be divided into two types

1. soluble in water and

2.insoluble in water.

Aniones are

Halide: Cl-, Br-, I - (Except: Ag+, Hg2+, Pb2)

Nitrate (NO3-) , perchlorate (ClO4-), acetate (CH3CO2- ), sulfate (SO42-) (Except: Ba2+, Hg22+, Pb2+ sulfates)

Cationes are

Group IA are soluble in water

Group 1A cation: Li+, Na+, K+, Rb+, Cs+, NH4+​​​​​​
