Colonic and caecal fermenters ferment the food in hind gut after passing through the stomach. So the food is scidified first and then it is fermented in the hind gut. Where as the ruminants have a atomach with four chambers. Most of the fermentation occurs in rumen ahere the bacteria are stored. Once digested the food is absorbed and then passed in to abomassum where the protein digestion occurs. The pH of abomasum is strongly acidic killing the bacteria. So first fermentation followed by acidification occurs in ruminants like cos and buffalo. Actual process of fermentation is same.
