Answer #1

There are numerous scientist who have conducte studies on various aspects of Notophthalmus Scientist such as.Brodie, Hamilton, Hurlbert, Webster and many others have contributed regarding the skin of newts.

The skin of notophthalmus contain tetrodotoxin which is a neurotoxin. This toxin concentrated on the dorsal surface. This toxicity on their skin make them unpalatable to many species such as mamals, fish, reptiles and amphibians. Many animals avoid the newts because of the effectiveness of their skin toxins. The bright red colour of the newts is aposematic i.e warning off potential predators. The cryptic green-brown coloration help them to avoid predation. The subspecies of newts with bright coloration maintain a diurnal activity. Thus skin coloration of the newts contribute to a effective anti-predator mechanism.
