Answer #1

Null hypothesis: C. 12:3:1

Since there are three phenotypes in the progeny, this seems to be a case of dominant epistasis where all A-/B- and aa/B- progeny show the same phenotype (numbered 12, red). The A-/bb phenotype numbers 3 (yellow) and the aabb phenotype numbers 1 (white).

The best estimate of the chi square statistic is 0.103

Total progeny = 122+29+9 = 160. From the expected ratio 12:3:1, expected progeny are 160x 12/16 = 120 red, 160x 3/16 = 30 yellow and 160x 1/16 = 10 white.

Degree of freedom = 1 (since there are two genes involved, dof becomes 2-1= 1)

    4. In a plant species, red, yellow, and white seed colors are found. A plant with red seeds was crossed to a plant with white seeds. The 820 offspring plants consist of 450 red seeded, 160 vellow seeded, and 210 white seeded individuals. Using the Chi-square test, show if these offspring better fit a 2 red: 1 yellow:1 white ratio or a 9 red: 3 yellow: 4 white ratio. Please show your work. Od 9onsor hobanian

Genetics questions, i need help! 1) For the Drosophila red/white cross, you crossed red females and white males (w'w, wy). a) Draw the Punnett Square for this cross (F1). What is the ratio of red females:red males? b) Suppose in the F1 generation, you observed 70 red females and 30 red males. In a flowering plant, red flowers are dominant over white flowers, and short plants are dominant over tall plants. A short plant with red flowers was self-fertilized and the phenotypes for the resulting progeny recorded (see below). Based on the observed numbers, you propose the hypothesis that this dihybrid cross follows a 9:3:3:1 phenotypic ratio, whereby Mendel's laws apply. Based on this hypothesis, you calculated the expected number of progeny for each phenotype (see below). Phenotype Observed Number of Plants...

According to genetic theory, a particular cross of two cultivars of sorghum should produce plants with red, yellow, or white seeds in the proportions 9/16, 3/16 and 1/4. Data from an experiment yielded the following results. Red Yellow White Count 216 6785 We wish to assess whether the data agree with the theory. What is the null hypothesis for the test? There is no difference among the colours. The probabilities given by genetic theory are correct. The probabilities are not...

You are studying two genes in corn that you believe may be linked: seed shape and and kernel color. You cross two true-breeding corn plants (one with red kernels and round seeds to one with yellow kernels and wrinkled seeds) and receive all red- kerneled, round seed offspring. You then perform a test-cross using the F1 offspring and a yellow-kerneled, round seed corn and receive the following result: 610 red kernels, round seeds 90 yellow kernels, round seeds 100 red...

The second F2 (cross 2) is from a yellow starchy corn crossed with a white sweet corn. The F1 was all yellow starchy.  Propose an inheritance pattern for this trait to account for the segregation pattern you observe (how many genes and what type of gene action controls the trait), and test your hypothesis with a Chi-square statistic.
