•Both processes requires the action of DNA helicase in order to unwinds the DNA

•Both requires a polymerase, in the case of DNA replication, a DNA polymerase is required while a RNA polymerase is required of transcription

•Both follows the rule of complementarity of nucleotides. With the exception of thymine to uracil in transcription

•Both process uses a DNA template

•In both processes the synthesis direction goes from 5’ to 3’

•In both processes a phosphodiester bond is formed
