Answer #1

Epiglottis is a small flap like structure of cartillage which is present attached to the larynx and covers the trachea, preventing food from entering it. While breathing, the epiglottis opens up and allows air in.

Epiglottitis is a condition in which the epiglottis swells up due to inflammation. This may occur due to a burn, injury or an infection.

Synptoms may include -

Fever.

Abnormal high pitched sound.

Sore throat.

Pain while swallowing.

Drooling.

This condition may also be life threatening because it may happen that it blocks the flow of air into the lungs leading to respiratory failure. O2 levels in the blood drop while CO2 excessively accumulates.

Haemophilus influenzae type b is the major cause of epiglottitis.

[Mayo clinic] Quantifying the number of eosinophils in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract is especially important in diagnosing inflammatory bowel disease. However, the current method, H&E staining, can only detect intact but not degranulated, eosinophils, and therefore may under-represent the extent of eosinophilic infiltration. A new method, eosinophil peroxidase (Epx) may be able to detect more eosinophils and therefore...
